Heavily spending on community services in the 2021-22 Federal Government will lead to serious skills shortage in childcare, age care and disability services.
The Government has committed:
- Increasing maximum childcare fee subsidise from 85% to 95% for families of 2 children or more. This will encourage up to 40,000 mothers to increase working days with a budget of $1.7 billion for the next 4 years.
- Providing $17.7 billion to fund age care reform and ensure older Australians are treated with respect, care and dignity.
- Supporting people with disability by fully funding the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) with an additional $13.2 billion.
Training skilled workers for these sectors have already been commenced through State government-funded programs such as the Smart and Skilled program in New South Wales.
