This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a variety of Business Services job roles. These individuals may have supervisory performance accountabilities.

Individuals in these roles carry out a mix of specialist and moderately complex administrative or operational tasks that require self-development skills. They use well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base to apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems and analyse information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others.

DELIVERY AND PATHWAYS

CRICOS students* – For a full-time study of 20 contact hours per week, it will take three terms (or nine months) to complete the course. On top of this 20 hours, you will have to invest between 10 to 15 hours per week of self-study. Please see below for details of the total learning volume hours of the course.

Non-CRICOS students – You can join on-campus classes with international students (See above) or study as a distance student at your own pace.

* CRICOS students are people who hold a student visa issued by the Australian Government.

Pathways – The BSB40120 is a level 4 qualification in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Therefore, it is recognised by all AQF colleges. On successful completion of this qualification, you can continue to enroll into a number of business and management courses at Diploma level or higher.

Employment Outcomes

You are expected to spend between 30 to 35 hours per week studying for your course. 

Here is how the recommended hours are worked out on-campus students.

TRAINING

  • You will attend classes for 14 hours (2 days or 4 nights) per week.
  • You will complete course work for 6 hours per week outside of class time. This is your structured self-study in which you follow a program planned and supported by your trainer. We monitor your completion of the course work.

This makes up a total of 20 contact hours per week.

SELF-STUDY

On top of the weekly training contact hours, you are expected to invest up to 15 hours per week on self-study such as

  • preparing your lesson before classes,
  • reviewing and consolidating your lesson after classes,
  • reading references,
  • doing research, etc.

This is recommended to make sure you understand your subjects more deeply and are ready for assessment.

ASSESSMENT

Every unit has assessment tasks. You may have to spend up to 20 hours per unit of competency, depending on the number of tasks and its level of difficulty. For example, you complete knowledge questions, assignments and practical demonstrations of skills.

To achieve the BSB40120 qualification you have successfully completed six core and six elective units of competency.

  2. BSBTEC404 – Use digital technologies to collaborate in a work environment
  3. BSBTWK401 – Build and maintain business relationships
  4. BSBWHS411 – Implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures and programs
  5. BSBWRT411 – Write complex documents
  6. BSBXCM401 – Apply communication strategies in the workplace

Six elective units of competency*

  1. BSBPEF502 – Develop and use emotional intelligence
  2. BSBPEF403 – Lead personal development
  3. BSBPMG430 – Undertake project work
  4. BSBHRM415 – Coordinate recruitment and onboarding
  5. BSBPEF501 – Manage personal and professional development
  6. BSBSUS511 – Develop workplace policies and procedures for sustainability
* These elective units of competency may be changed during the training program without prior notice.
