This qualification reflects the role of individuals who apply advanced knowledge and skills in a range of strategic portfolio management roles. The job roles that relate to this qualification may include Portfolio Manager.

Individuals in these roles have full responsibility and accountability for personal outputs and for the work or function of others. Individuals at this level make high-level autonomous decisions and use initiative and judgement to plan and implement a range of project, program and portfolio management functions in varied contexts.

They use cognitive and creative skills to review, critically analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge, in order to generate ideas and provide solutions to complex problems. They use communication skills to demonstrate their understanding of theoretical concepts and to transfer knowledge and ideas to others

DELIVERY AND PATHWAYS

Non-CRICOS students – You can study as a distance student at your own pace.

Pathways – The BSB80220 is a level 8 qualification in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Therefore, it is recognised by all AQF education providers. On successful completion of this qualification, you can continue to study a post graduate degree at an Australian university or higher education institute subject to its entry requirements.

total volume of learning

You are expected to spend between 30 to 35 hours per week studying for your course. 

Here is how the recommended hours are worked out for on-campus students.

TRAINING

  • You will attend classes for 14 hours (2 days or 4 nights) per week.
  • You will complete course work for 6 hours per week outside of class time. This is your structured self-study in which you follow a program planned and supported by your trainer. We monitor your completion of the course work.

This makes up a total of 20 contact hours per week.

SELF-STUDY

On top of the weekly training contact hours, you are expected to invest up to 15 hours per week on self-study such as

  • preparing your lesson before classes,
  • reviewing and consolidating your lesson after classes,
  • reading references,
  • doing research, etc.

This is recommended to make sure you understand your subjects more deeply and are ready for assessment.

ASSESSMENT

Every unit has assessment tasks. You may have to spend up to 20 hours per unit of competency, depending on the number of tasks and its level of difficulty. For example, you complete knowledge questions, assignments and practical demonstrations of skills.

  • BSBLDR811 Lead strategic transformation
  • BSBSTR801 Lead innovative thinking and practice
  • BSBINS603 Initiate and lead applied research

 * These elective units of competency may be changed during the training program without prior notice.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For entry into this qualification, you have

  • completed a Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification in related fields of study and 3 years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience at a significant level of project or program leadership and management responsibility and/or complexity in an enterprise or
  • completed a Bachelor degree in related fields of study and 2 years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience at a significant level of project or program leadership and management responsibility and/or complexity in an enterprise or
  • five years equivalent full-time relevant workplace experience at a significant level of leadership and management responsibility and/or complexity in an enterprise.
